thank you so much for making this available to us. My papaw is in this book. I had never seen him in his helmet.

what happened to the pictures? when I opened the file, all of the pictures were covered with a strange dot-matrix-like pattern?

Sam, the pattern is called a moire pattern and it's a result of scanning the book. Some books are printed with tiny dots that cause moire patterns when scanned. Sometimes it can be controlled by applying a de-interlacing filter as it's scanned. In this case, this is the best copy I have.
