Delighted to find this! I am writing up my Dad's wartime experiences and this provides an excellent beginning point. He went on to join the 8th AF with the 305 BG 364 BS. He went down May 19, 1943 on his 8th mission on his way to bomb Kiel Germany. He was one of three to survive but had back and internal injuries. After 17 days in a German hospital he went to Stalag Luft III. His Mom saved some 50 letters home but those ended in 1944. In January 1945 he survived the Death March and then went on to Stalag VIIA, Moosberg, where he managed to survive until he was liberated by the 14th Armored Division on April 29, 1945. After college on the G.I. Bill to get his BS in Electrical Engineering, he rejoined the Air Force. The AF sent him for a Masters in EE while he was in the Security Service doing electronic eavesdropping on the Soviets. Then in 1960 the AF sent him to MIT for Doctoral level work before he joined the Space Systems Division to work on spy satellites. He finished his 30 year career as a colonel and was the Chief Engineer on the AWACS program. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his work there. Col. William T. Jones, USAF Retired
