What a wonderful momento. My Uncle William J. McGowan received his wings and 2nd Lt. commission in December, 1943 at Eagle Pass. I would love to see the correlating "Eagles" book for his graduating class. Would you know what the letter-year would be? Lt. McGowan was killed when his P47 went down about 6-months later on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and I am trying to piece together his short life for my mother.

I am writing a book about Ray Firmani called "Against All Odds, The Ray Firmani Story." Ray went on to become a lead B-17 pilot in the 486th Bomb Group (8th Air Force). He flew 25 successful missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Ray is now 94 years young and doesn't miss a beat.

My best congratulations to the initiative of making available these historical records. They have been very useful in the biography I am writing about the Brazilian pilot Roberto Brandini, fighting against the Tedeschi in Italy during the WWII, October1944 to May1945. Other Brazilian pilots belonging to the Class 44-E I met before they passed away had good memories and were proud to serve in US Air Force. One of the most striking thing was how good they were treated by the local people!
