There are so many cool pictures inside with many different people in the photos!

[3] Mike Voisin (27-Sep-2011 06:57 PM)

@Georgeann, generally most class books do not have an index. However, the cadets are usually listed in alphabetical order because that's how they were assigned to each squadron. If your dad graduated from a school near Biloxi, you'll have to search class books from that school.

[2] Georgeann Johnston (27-Sep-2011 06:45 PM)

Does it have a name index? I am searching for my dad's info from the AAC. He graduated from airplane mechanics school Nov 1943, Keesler, Biloxi MS.

[1] Craig Stewart (06-Nov-2009 09:07 PM)

I just came across my dad's yearbook for 44-8 (squadron 1, squadron 5 (my dad's) If you would like to borrow it to add to your archives feel free to contact me.

[3] Gregg Heilman (16-Nov-2021 10:42 PM)

It is the FIRST PUBLICATION Hickam put out after the JAPANESE ATTACK on HICKAM. My father was in the 11th BOMB GROUP HEAVY the 42 SQUADRON. The COMMANDER IN THE BOOK IS GENERAL CLARENCE TINKER. The 11th BGH was at the BATTLE OF MIDWAY and his B-24 went down on the way to the BATTLE OF MIDWAY he was the FIRST US GENERAL LOST IN WWII. The link to the 11TH BGH has an administrator if you write him he is extremely knowledgeable of the units and activities in the USAAC in the PACIFIC THEATER. Believe me I am entirely in contact with families now, all the men I knew who served with my father have passed on.

[2] Mike Voisin (16-Mar-2020 09:35 AM)

Most of the photos in this book would be from 1942 and before. Many were "stock" photos taken at the base, and used in many different editions of the class book.

[1] Anonymous (15-Mar-2020 05:26 PM)

I am researching (for the family) the path of Dwight Morgan Holmes, US Army Air Corps, killed as a POW in WWII. 30th Bomber Squadron, 19th Bomber Group, Heavy V Bomber Command. He was at Hickman prior to being sent overseas.
Would this publication include photos prior to 1942; would this be relevant to the "life" Lt. Holmes experienced at Hickman? If so, I will send this on to the family, who are desperate to determine his path and photos.

Number 1 British Flying Training School, Terrell, Texas, Volume 3

Class book for British airmen in the Royal Air Force who trained at the Kaufman County Airport in Terrell, Texas.

[2] Les Ashton (12-Nov-2021 08:07 AM)

Hello Mike.
A picture of my father, Cadet D.R.G. Ashton, is in vol 3 although the cover of the book that I have has vol 11 stamped into it. Dad passed away on 10 December 2013, 5 days after his 95th Birthday. He occasionally spoke of his time at Terrell field, as he called it. He was eventually invalided out after it was discovered that he suffered from air sickness.
The Forward says "In its two years of operation", but nowhere, as far as I can see, does it say what year that was or, idealy, what months the trainig tok place.

all the very best to you.
Les Ashton

All the best

[1] Bobby Silliman (22-Oct-2021 01:39 PM)

I know one of the airmen mentioned and shown in this class book. His name is Lt Evertt D. Atkinson and he turned 99 on June 3rd 2021. He shared a story with me regarding a cadet student named Malcolm F. Hayles. Evertt was flying as an instructor in an AT-6 two seat trainer. On December 11, 1943, and about 7 miles west of Luke Field, the engine died and would not re-start..Nothing was below them except giant cactus and huge boulders. Evertt took the controls and aimed his now gliding AT-6 at a small cotton patch that looked smooth enough to make a wheels up landing on. He did it with minimal damage to the aircraft! He saved a souvenir of the occasion, a small handful of cotton and cotton stems that were stuck in the engine cowling. He still has these after almost 75 years!

[3] Jim (11-Nov-2013 01:28 AM)

By the way, if anyone has a copy of Bruce field class 42-K, I Would like to see it. My other uncle should be in that book. He was killed by sabotage of the plane he was ferrying out of Malta. I have never seen his picture.

[2] Jim (11-Nov-2013 01:25 AM)

Hello Karen, I was looking for information about my uncle and ran into a registry of all accidents involving airplanes. I'm not sure I could find it again, but let me know if you'd like me to try. I found a record of a ground loop on landing when he was training.

[1] Karen (15-May-2010 11:14 PM)

I've been working on my husband's family tree. This book helped to answer some questions about his great uncle, Melvin L. Holman. My husband's grandmother talked about her younger brother being a cadet and being killed while testing a plane. We would like more information about that incident. If any one knows where we can get more information, please contact us.
